It's been way too long since we've posted on here! Our kids are growing by leaps and bounds and I have been so busy taking care of them that I haven't gotten a chance to post on here.
Abbi is now 8 weeks old and extremely particular about EVERYTHING! We have decided that the best way to get her to go to sleep is to swaddle her. This has been a life saver for my sanity, during Jeremy's long work days. She now smiles intentionally and melts our hearts each time she does it! She is extremely loved by her big brothers. There is not a morning that goes by that they don't rush into bed with us to greet her and give her tons of hugs and kisses.
Elijah's vocabulary is expanding rapidly. He is talking in full sentences majority of the time and repeats most everything his brother says. He's doing really good at describing placement of items, such as his blankie being in the living room or Daddy is in the kitchen. He has recently learned our last name and now calls each of us by our first and last name. We're working on him learning mom and dad's real names, so he can tell strangers that if he loses us in the stores (he's more likely to do that than Alex was at his age). He's learned quite a few of his colors and has currently determined that blue and green are his favorites. We were noticing him lose interest in book time during bedtime, so we started to problem solve in order to keep him interested in books, we found that we were reading Alex's age level or above books instead of books that would keep his interest. We've added in a couple more book times into our day where he gets to pick out board books or more age appropriate books for him. Since then he's identified a liking for the Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? Book.
Alex has had a recent growth spurt, resulting in a tall thin boy! With that growth spurt he also has grown in his vocabulary and conversation skills. We've seen a huge change in him from the beginning of the school year until now and know that will continue throughout his schooling. His curiosity has benefitted him greatly as he is always asking about why things work the way they do or what words mean that he's not familiar with. After he knows the meanings or reasons, he references that knowledge or uses the words in future conversations. Along with his academics, he also has found a new love for video games. This is something that we're quite torn about…he would play video games for as long as we let him! He recently discovered Donkey Kong and Lego Star Wars for the Wii and more than anything, enjoys watching us play it. He also has a video game chain that he's been playing by fisher price and he's starting to get into them more. For you moms of boys out there its called, Imaginext Robot Police. Target sells the action figures and with each action figure is a video game, they all link together into one program and each robot has a specific game that it provides to the game. It has been very beneficial during the busy fussy baby times to have something for Alex to do.
We've struggled to get much outdoor time lately because the weather has been so crappy. We've hardly had more than a day of sunshine and then it rains all over again. We would normally be wearing shorts and T-shirts by now, and we've not even been able to go without sweatshirts most of the time!
We recently participated in a "busy bag exchange" through other blogging moms, I'm anxiously awaiting the package with the finished results. For those of you not familiar, busy bags are Ziploc bags with an activity that you can pull out and provide to your toddler/preschooler to complete with little or no time needed by you. These will come in handy as we have plenty of moments when we need some hands free time. The best part about them is that most of them offer an educational piece also. If anyone local is interested, I'm trying to get a group of moms together to do them again. As I head back to work these will become more of a resource for us than they already are. It would also provide our sitters with something to do with the kids in a spur of the moment.
